Details

The concept of gender is one that is static for many and malleable for some. Many mistakenly interchange gender with sexuality. Some argue that it is cultural/environmental, while other say that it is genetic. What is gender? The answer continues to elude. Tarynn Whitten’s introspective work seeks to explore the mystery of gender identity through an integration of   various principles of Taoism.

The Tao of Gender grew out of a personal need to provide peaceful reading for those who seek “The Way” on their journey through life, in a world where transgenderism and transsexuality are all too often misunderstood. The author hopes to help those on this journey to find balance by tapping into their infinite capacity for resourcefulness and wisdom within.

What readers are saying

This book is a gift of inspiration and insight for those who experience gender fluidity or want to explore the nature of trans-genderism. Tarynn artfully weaves the personal and the  philosophical, creating a tapestry of gender and Taoism with threads of self-discovery and

renewal.—Randi Ettner, Ph.D., author of Gender Loving Care; and Confessions of a Gender Defender

Person First Not Gender
I met this author at a national conference... what a powerful and gentle person! This book is a gentle meditation on the journey that transgender people undertake. It awoke my compassion and inspired me to think about gender as a fluid experience rather than a designation written in stone at birth. I have continued after reading this book and meeting the author, to think about my own prejudices and fears on the subject and how spirituality unites us all in a search for an authentic self. I am inspired by the courage of transgender people and intersex people who travel a road that must at times be so lonely and terrifying. I love the fact that Dr. Witten talks about surgical changes to the body is just the beginning of the journey and not the end; that external changes are always to some extent an "illusion" for us all and we are still left with the internal struggle for a sense of self that is integrated. Thank you Dr. Witten for your courage and the passionate sharing of your wisdom and experience. You have made a lasting positive impression on my life. Review by Lisa Quesne / (Posted on 6/23/2017)

Highly Recommended
This is an amazing book for all those going through any gender identity or expression journey. It is not a self help book, but a book that allows you to reflect on where you are, and it gives you the ability nurture the process, all based on your own phase. I will highly recommend this book to all those that are, like me, finding the truth about themselves. Review by Diana Marquez / (Posted on 6/23/2017)
